Musical educational event

19th of October 2024, 19:00 – 22:00, building H, room H001

Computer games sound like Nokia mobile phone ringtones? The best-selling home computer of the 1980s won't put up with that! "Operator bird" DJ Thunder.Bird challenges the prejudice of squeaky computer game sounds. With technical expertise and anecdotes from 35 years of his active time with the Commodore 64, the evening in building H will be rounded off with a verbal-acoustic explanation of how synthesised sounds generated with the Sound Interface Devices MOS6581 and MOS8580 are even capable of making the dancefloors of the metropolises shake. In addition to the programmable synthesiser sound chip of the C64, FM synthesis using Yamaha's YM2612 in combination with SN76489 will also be explained to game console fans and demonstrated to their ears what was once intended for the home gamer. This educational event offers an alternative sensory experience for the ears, eyes and mind. DJ Thunder.Bird
